Tiptons April 2015 European Tour!! April 16 – May 4

Ciao a Tutti! We are excited and getting things in order for our Spring European tour – we’ll be performing in Austria, Germany and Italy. Below is the short list but please see our calendar page for more detailed information and updates! We still have some concert dates open and are looking for concerts in the north of Germany, Slovenia and Croatia.

Other news – we had a very successful west coast Mythunderstandings tour in January, performing our live music, video and storytelling perfromance piece with Salish storyteller Paul “Che-okten” Wagner in Seattle and Arcata, Ca. We also toured all the way down to Santa Monica from Seattle, wowing audiences of all ages. We also got to teach some really fun workshops to students at the Cornish School of music in Seattle as well as the Humboldt State University music dept. There were some unforgettable moments of improvisation and conduction! We were able to film the Mythunderstandings piece for 3 nights and are now editing the editing the footage.  We’ll have a short promo and also full documentary film done soon!

Thanks for supporting live and new music!

More nice things people are saying about The Tiptons Sax Quartet….

“…a mix of oneiric rhapsodizing and jump-band scat.”

Jon Garelick, The Boston Phoenix

“The quartet, with lead composers Amy Denio and Jessica Lurie, gravitates to funk and the bitter edge, using both saxes and voices. The group’s diverse experiences are embedded in the set.”

Karl Stark, Philadelphia Inquirer

“…The rich, brassy sounds of all those saxes never leaves you wanting there to be a guitar or piano; they handle all the chores just fine by themselves, and then some. Back in the Swing Era, all party music was driven by a lot of horns. The Tiptons Sax Quartet: Laws Of Motion makes me wonder why party music couldn’t be that way again.”

Victor Aaron, Something Else! Prestige Records

“The Tiptons are one of my very favorite bands these days. Beautiful arrangements that are both funky and swinging, amazing solos, and, increasingly, incredibly beautiful vocalizing. They range far over the map in terms of their interests, but wherever they alight, there’s something moving, strange, beautiful, and new. No one else surprises me as much and with such stunning musicality.”

Rick Moody, author of The Ice Storm
