Sein Album „Eire – Isle of the Saints“ wurde mit dem Award „Best Celtic Album of the Year“ ausgezeichnet.

"... the harp guitar of John Doan is twenty strings of magic. Even after watching, I'm still not sure how he managed to do all that!" The Rocket - The Northwest Music and Entertainment Magazine

The show “20 Strings of Magic” features John's acclaimed music and playing of the twenty-string harp guitar that is redefining the possibilities of both guitar music and the audience listening experience. This form of harp guitar was created in America's Northwest in the 1890’s and is being revived by John’s playing and recording. He recently was given the International Brand Laureate Award for “World’s Leading Harp Guitarist.”

Mason Williams (Classical Gas) says, c"John’s music is like magic. No special effects or illusion, real hands on real magic. Where all of this music is coming from seems like a mystical experience.”

20 Strings of Magic” takes audiences beyond borders and around the world with music inspired in Asia, Europe, and the US along with homages to Jimi Hendrix, Mason Williams (of Classical Gas fame), John Fahey (the “Father of the American Fingerstyle Guitar) and American folk legend Burl Ives accompanied by stories of first hand encounters.

Burl Ives says, "John's music is simply beautiful. No, it is more than that, it is heavenly!"

John is a pioneer of the harp guitar – an instrument that supplements the standard guitar's six fretted strings with six unfretted sub-bass strings and eight super treble strings, which ring with bell-like clarity. John explains, "it has almost the range of the piano but it is a lot easier to carry with you!"

In addition to his solo performances John has toured with the Mason Williams and the New Christy Minstrels and has shared the stage with Burl Ives, Donovan, Larry Carlton and Muriel Anderson. His virtuoso playing and arranging has attracted praise from no less guitar luminaries than Chet Atkins and Doc Watson. John has starred in various American PBS television specials one of which was award an Emmy-Nomination for “Best Entertainment Special of the Year.” John's recording "Eire – Isle of the Saints" was award "Best Celtic Album of the Year." John lives in the Northwest of United States where he is a Professor of music at Willamette University.
